Journal 6 Movie Endings: Devious or Dangerous?

Hollywood does everything it can to make as much money as it can.  They go to many different lenghts to please audiences.  Pleasing audiences normally follows a pattern, if filmmakers are wise they stick to that pattern.  One thing Hollywood does very well is ending movies with satisfying endings, if they fail to do so movies normally become busts.  Having a good ending leaves audiences feeling good and satisfied.  Although endings can be a source of controversy when books are made into movies.  Many people do not like when the ending changes from the book, making the movie not like the book at all.  The questions arises should movies be allowed to change endings to please audiences?  The new movie Breaking Dawn alters major moments at the end of the movie to please audiences. Pleasing audiences is one thing but change someone else's work can potentially be crossing the line.  I do not have a problem with filmmakers trying to please an audience but I do think that switching movies is potentially disastrous.  Fans go to the movies expecting to see one thing but instead find out that the movie is completely different.  Even though changing the ends to movies can please audiences I think that movies that are based on books should be left alone.

  1. I agree with you one hundred percent about this topic. When I read books like The Hunger Games, Harry Potter or Twilight for example and they switch the endings it does just ruin the whole movie it seems like. As you said in your post that the fans go into the film expecting one thing and get something else, you're left disappointed since the story from the book was so good. I think that movies based on books should be kept to the story the author came up with and be left original instead of trying to do something cool and fancy.

  2. Books endings should stay the same.. I did see breaking dawn and loved the twist at the end however i never go to finish that whole book so i didn't know what was coming.I was told that wasn't how the book ended but I guess if you didn't read it you can't be that upset. Some people like twists and turn and some people just want to see the book come to life.
